How to choose an RTO app for Shopify in India
The types of COD and RTO apps, what to check before installing one, and where RTOGuard fits. No rankings, no made-up numbers.
There are several apps for COD and RTO on the Shopify App Store. They fall into a few types, and the right one depends on where your problem is. This page explains the types and where RTOGuard fits, without ranking anyone.
The main types
- COD confirmation apps: message or call every COD buyer (WhatsApp, IVR, SMS) and ask them to confirm. Good when buyers change their mind; costs per message and adds a step for every order.
- Checkout and COD-restriction apps: hide COD for some pin codes, order values or products, or add a COD fee. Good for a few bad pin codes; blunt for everything else.
- Risk scoring apps: score each order before it ships and surface the risky ones. Good for keeping COD on while cutting returns; the team still decides.
- Reporting apps: show RTO rate and losses after the fact. Useful for the finance view; they do not stop a parcel.

Our honest take
If your returns come from a handful of pin codes, a restriction app alone may be enough. If buyers often change their mind after ordering, a confirmation app earns its fee. If you want to keep COD on, stop the risky orders before they ship and know which ads are bringing the returns, that is the job RTOGuard is built for.
Whatever you pick: install it in a test or observe mode first, compare its flags against your real RTOs for two weeks, and only then let it change anything.

Questions people ask
Is RTOGuard a COD confirmation app?
Not today. It is a risk scoring and real-ROAS app. It flags risky COD orders for your team to confirm, and includes a Message on WhatsApp link that opens WhatsApp on your own phone. Automatic WhatsApp confirmation is coming soon.
Can RTOGuard block COD for certain pin codes?
It gives you a pin-code exclusion list (CSV) from your own RTO data to use in Meta ads and in COD-restriction apps. It does not change your checkout.
Will RTOGuard slow down my checkout or block a sale?
No. It works on orders after they are placed, through Shopify webhooks, and it fails open: if RTOGuard has an error, your orders flow exactly as before.
Does RTOGuard share my buyers' data with other stores?
No shared blacklist. Risk signals are computed for your store. Phones used for matching are stored as one-way hashes.
